5 Tips to Take Good Care Of Your Purple Clay Teapot
When you excitedly bring a rare and outstanding purple clay teapot back to your home, you must be anxious to try your favorite tea in it. But wait a minute, you’d better know something about how to prepare it for the first brew, and how to take good care of it. Otherwise, it may not exert its full potential. So hold your horses and read this article, then you will be qualified to become the master of your purple clay teapot.
Get ready for the first brew
It is natural that a new purple clay teapot might have some foreign odors or mineral particles left inside from the firing process. It will give you a very bad first impression if you use it like this to make tea. So you do have to clean it first.
It’s easy enough to do: put a bit of tea inside the pot and fill it with cool water. Unlike preparing tea, the water shouldn’t be boiling, about room temperature is fine. Then place the pot into a cooking container of your own that is also filled with water. The purple clay teapot should be completely underwater.
Simmer the large pot, with the teapot inside, on a stove for 30 minutes or so and bring the water to a light boil. Now turn off the stove. When the water cools off, take out the teapot. Remove the tea leaves, rinse the pot, and leave it to air dry. After it’s dry, the new pot is ready for its first brew.
Take care of it everyday
1. Since purple clay takes in some of the best qualities of your tea, don’t wash it using harmful soap or other chemicals. Doing this cleans away any special qualities that have built up inside your pot. Instead, just rinse it off with water after each use.
2. Be sure to get rid of all used tea leaves and rinse away the old water before storing your pot. This will keep germs and other bacteria from forming inside and ensures your pot fresh for its next use. You can air dry the pot if you leave the lid slightly open, and you can use a soft rag to soak up excess water.
3. Because there will be moisture stored in the walls of your pot, always store it in a cool, well-ventilated area. This keeps your pot ‘breathing’ and it won’t become stale. Besides, your friends and guests will want to see the unique design, so there’s no reason to hide it away in a dark cabinet!
