What to Remember in Getting 3 Cup Rice Cookers

In my opinion, a rice cooker is a must in your kitchen. But many people have never owned one, while others don’t consider getting a rice cooker. But there are those who are happy with their rice cookers and swear they won’t go back to the old method.

I’m one of those who love rice and can’t live without rice cookers. I used to avoid any meal with rice in it. But that changed when my partner came into my life.

Now, I’m a convert and we cook rice about three times a week. Thanks to our 3 cup rice cooker, we have the finest rice every time. If you’re single or a couple or a small family, here are some of the things to consider when buying the ideal 3 cup rice cookers.

How much rice to cook

A 3 cup rice cooker is the best size for people who don’t need to cook much rice at a time. It is not recommended for people who cook too much rice since it’s not designed to handle such amount of rice. Having a 3 cup rice cooker when you’re cooking 4 cups means a messy counter – there will be spilling over and splattering, for sure.

Don’t cook too little rice if you’re using a 3 cup cooker. It can lead to overcooking and drying. You don’t want that, so limit the amount to only 2-3 cups.

My partner and I considered buying a 5 cup version. But a good friend (a rice cooker expert) told us that a 5-cupper and other larger versions aren’t appropriate for a couple like us. It’s too big.

Instead, she suggested us to get a 3 cup rice cooker. And we did. So far, our rice cooker has yet to disappoint us.

Cost of rice cookers

Price is a deal breaker when buying a 3 cup rice cooker. There’s a big difference in price tag between the basic, low-end rice cookers and the high-end advanced ones. In fact the less expensive rice cookers cost around $15-$30; on the other hand, top-class rice cookers cost around $150-$200 or more.

In general, the less expensive 3 cup rice cookers are okay if you?ll use it only for cooking plain rice and nothing more. But if you cook a wide variety of rice, the higher end rice cookers will do.
